Worlds of Words Center and USBBY are collaborating on a research project to complete an annual content analysis of international youth literature published and/or distributed in the U.S. to identify trends in these books related to genre, age levels, themes, geographical settings, main character heritage, author and illustrator locations and heritage, translator expertise, and much more. International books are identified as books that were first published in another country before being coming to the U.S. The first two annual International Book Reports have been issued for 2024 and 2025 and can be accessed in WOW Stories, Issue XII (2), which includes detailed charts, graphs, and maps. In addition, interactive maps are available that can be toggled over to find detailed information on geographical settings, author locations, and illustrator locations. The spreadsheets of books analyzed in 2024 and 2025 are also available. The 2026 analysis is currently in progress and will be released in February/March 2027. |
