elizabeth poe receives penelope delta award

USBBY member Elizaeth Poe received the Penelope Delta Award.  Penelope Delta is considered the first Greek children’s author.   The award is IBBY Greece's highest honor and is given for distinguished service. This is the first time they have ever awarded it to a non-Greek.  

Elizabeth received it for the impact that her work with Readers Theatre has had across Greece.  Elizabeth has been working with schools and teachers in Greece for the past seven years.  The workshops and seminars she has given have made Readers Theatre an approach to literature that many teachers have embraced.  Teachers have praised the approach  because it enables children to become involved with the books they read and enjoy them in a fun way.  Because of this, and some of her other endeavors, she is seen as a great promoter of reading.  American author Gregory Maguire also was honored.
