Speaking of bringing the global community of readers home to individuals, USBBY is SO GRATEFUL to Regional Conference 2022 organizers Ellen Myrick and Ann Neely for arranging this extraordinary appetizer and opportunity, "Opening Act."

Per Ellen Myrick:
As we began to plan the next IBBY Regional conference to be held in Nashville, we decided to have an “All-Conference Read.” We selected Ruta Sepetys’ latest novel, The Fountains of Silence, a wonderful story set in Spain during Franco’s reign. We began planning for Ruta, who lives in Music City, to lead us in a discussion of her book in a program moderated by Nicole Robinson-Hamilton of Ingram Content Group.

Then we wondered “Why wait until March 4-6, 2022?”  Why not have an opening act for the conference? So, we are delighted that we will now hold the conference’s opening act on March 6, 2021. Not only will be discussing The Fountains of Silence on that Saturday afternoon, we will also pay homage to our 2022 theme of “The Music of Words” with a morning session dedicated to Ashley Bryan’s Infinite Hope, with an illustrious panel headlined by award-winning narrator Dion Graham. Educator and respected critic Dean Schneider and Audio Publishing Association’s Executive Director Michele Cobb will round out the illustrious panel.

We hope you will join us for these two virtual programs. The modest registration fee will go to support USBBY’s twinning partners.
