Fall of 2020 has provided numerous reasons for celebration throughout the international children's lit world. First, a heartfelt congratualtions to USBBY's own Janet Wong for being given NCTE's 2021 Excellence in Poetry for Children Award! Secondly, the 2020 IBBY Honour List is now available. Congratulations to all of the creators and sections that make such an extraordinary collection possible! Next, USBBY proudly announces its nominees for the 2022 Hans Christian Andersen Awards: Linda Sue Park for Writing and Kadir Nelson for Illustration! Finally, Bridges readers will be familiar with the UN's SDG (Sustainable Development Goals) Book Club. It is exciting to report, then, that in at the start of the Frankfurt Book Fair in October 2020, publishers from around the world signed the Sustainable Development Goals Publishers Compact. Per the International Publishers Assoication:
The SDG Publishers Compact is a voluntary commitment that recognizes the responsibility of the publishing industry to create a sustainable future through action. Signatories aspire to develop sustainable practices and act as champions of the SDGs during the Decade of Action (2020-2030), publishing books and journals that will help inform, develop and inspire action in that direction. This compact follows other compacts for the Media sector and businesses in general.
